As of March 5, 2025, OpenAI has begun rolling out GPT-4.5 to ChatGPT Plus subscribers. The rollout will take 1–3 days, meaning all Plus users should have access by March 8 at the latest.
Why the Staggered Release?
- High computational demand – CEO Sam Altman called GPT-4.5 a "giant, expensive model."
- GPU shortages – OpenAI is adding tens of thousands of GPUs to expand access.
- Phased rollout – Started with Pro users ($200/month) on Feb 27, now moving to Plus ($20/month) & Team, with Enterprise & Edu users next week.
What’s New in GPT-4.5?
- More knowledge & better context understanding
- Lower hallucination rate – 37.1% (vs. GPT-4o: 61.8%, o1: 44%)
- Higher rate limits for Plus users
- Supports web search, file/image uploads, and the canvas tool
- No voice, video, or screensharing (yet)
What to Expect
- Rollout should complete by March 8
- Some users already reporting access today
- Higher-tier users prioritized first as OpenAI scales infrastructure
